Association of Disabled Employers
Anne Pridmore writes: I am in the process of forming an Association of Disabled Employers who employ their own Personal Assistants/Support Workers/Carers, whether these are funded privately or through 'direct payments' from the local authority, JobCentre Plus or another public body. Through my 17 years experience I know that “we” need a stronger voice to represent our views: too many decisions are being made on our behalf. A Being the Boss company has been formed, registration number 06843231, and we are now accepting membership applications.
Membership categories:
(a) Full membership of Being the Boss shall be
open to any disabled person in the United Kingdom who directly employs Personal
Assistant(s) (PAs), no matter from where the employer receives their funding.
Full members shall have voting rights and speaking rights at the Annual General
Meeting of Being the Boss.
(b) Associate Membership shall be open to disabled people who are looking into employing their own Personal Assistants (PA’s). Associate members shall have speaking rights at the Annual Meeting of Being the Boss but not voting rights.
(c) Supporting Membership shall be open to any disabled person who supports the principle of independent living and subscribes to the Social Model of Disability. Supporting Members shall have no speaking or voting rights.
(d) Affiliate Membership
shall be open to voluntary organisations, commercial companies and firms, trade
unions, local authorities and other groups who support the objects of Being
the Boss, as may be agreed by the Being the Boss Directors.
