The Campaign for Real Care is aiming for fundamental change in the way social care is delivered. We believe we have a compelling case. It is rooted in evidence, painstakingly compiled over a four year period, that reveal the way councils breach the Care Act in order to preserve traditional practices that serve to deny the existence of any needs for which there is no resource. The consequences are devastating. They account for so much of the negative experiences of social care that people have consistently reported over many years, with increasing intensity. We have set our findings out in a series of papers called Unveiling the Truth about Social Care in England.
I am writing to ask if you will allow us to meet with you to present both our findings and our campaign objectives. They are twofold:
1. The creation of a Charter for the Right to Wellbeing. This would mean ‘need’ is established in the context of a vision for how life should be, not resources, and political responsibility for closing any gap between needs and funding accepted. This will ensure delivery of the Care Act 2014.
2. In the meantime, a Self-assessment toolkit to empower service users to take control of their own assessment. This makes the Care Act directly accessible to the individual so they can self-assess to Care Act requirements and so have greater legal authority than any resource led council assessment.
We would want to put the case to you for you to endorse the Charter. We are seeking to build key support, such as from yourselves, before taking to mainstream politicians.
